Early READING AT HOME
Here you will find lots of useful information and links. This will help with reading at home during the Spring school closure.
Rising Stars - Reading Planet
Following the feedback form parents, regarding access to new reading materials, Booker Hill has purchased a school subscription to Rising Stars - Reading Planet. This is an online subscription, that allows the children in all year groups to access new reading books each week. We are in the process of sending children their individual log ins. Once you have your log in, please follow the link below:

Please support and encourage your child to read daily. Remember they should also spend time every day practising their High Frequency words (which can be found below).
It is very important that you give your child reading books that are the appropriate reading level for them. To find out what level your child is on, check the back of the books that were last sent home. There you will find a PM Level which is a number, check the 'Book Band Comparison Chart' above to see which colour level you need on the Rising Stars. Please note that the PM books are very finely levelled and as a result your child will spend longer on the each colour band as there are several PM levels to each.
Please also note the level of accuracy expected (reading and comprehension) before moving up a level:
95 - 100% accuracy: The book level is suitable for independent work and reading practice.
90 - 94% accuracy: The book level is suitable for guided reading instruction (with a teacher or parent).
Book Introductions
This Power point contains all the information needed to introduce the reading books at home. All children were given reading books from school to take home. Please continue to use these, it is important that the children reread their books to help with word recognition and fluency.

High Frequency Words
Your child will need to practice their high frequency words every day. All children from Reception to Year 2 will find their own word sets in their reading zippy, these were updated just before the Christmas break. Below are both sets for you to download and/or print if you need them.
The high frequency words are words that need to be learnt by sight. We encourage the children to learn and then read them at speed when they are shown them. I would advise you practice them in a different order each day; some children will remember and recall them as a list of words as opposed to recognising them as individual words in isolation.
Phonics
Please encourage your children to participate in daily phonics activities. Some suggestions of work will be listed daily by your child's class teacher (this can be found in the daily planning on your child's class page or via seesaw).
