The Department for Education guidance from September 2020 states that they, ‘expect schools to have the capacity to offer immediate remote education. Schools are expected to consider how to continue to improve the quality of their existing offer and have a strong contingency plan in place for remote education provision by the end of September.’

  • use a curriculum sequence that allows access to high-quality online and offline resources and teaching videos,
  • give access to high quality remote education resources
  • select the online tools that will be consistently used across the school in order to allow interaction, assessment and feedback, and make sure staff are trained in their use
  • provide printed resources, such as textbooks and workbooks, for pupils who do not have suitable online access
  • recognise that younger pupils and some pupils with SEND may not be able to access remote education without adult support

Remote learning is identified as whole school closure (for example in the event of localised lockdown and whole school lockdown);

Blended learning is identified as partial closure or where an individual pupil / group / phase / bubble need to self-isolate.

Aims of the Booker Hill Plan for Remote / Blended Learning

  • To outline our approach / plan for remote / blended learning
  • To explain the rationale behind our approach
  • To list the barriers to home learning identified during the March – July 2020 partial school closure period
  • To detail the high quality remote education resources selected for use by pupils at Booker Hill School
  • To continuously review the school’s remote/ blended learning plan and make both appropriate and innovative changes to its provision in response to local, regional and national advancements within the educational community

Evaluation

As a result of feedback and evaluation of March – July provision, senior leaders have reviewed Booker Hill’s approach to remote learning and have compiled the following plan:

  • Home learning guide schedules (see parent leaflet)
  • A school subscription to Seesaw
  • Use of Oak National Academy online resource
  • Paper home learning packs (where possible)
  • Reading materials (where possible)
  • CGP materials purchased for all year groups
  • Continuation of the use of the school Facebook page
  • Continuation of teachers contacting parents, carers and pupils (where possible)

Preparation

In early Autumn 2020, teachers taught all children how to use Seesaw and Oak National Academy resources.

Teachers shared expectations for levels of engagement to all pupils.

The selected resources will be used for both Remote and Blended Learning.

The school website will enable easy access for pupils and parents / carers.

All children to be issued with reading materials on a daily basis to ensure they have them should a phase / bubble / family isolation occur.
