Booker Hill School remains committed to providing the best education possible for all of our children. We have studied the guidance released by the DfE and all subsequent updates and have decided on the following key principles for the school during any period of COVID restriction..
- The Department for Education guidance states that in the event of any period of local or national lockdown, children should be placed in ‘distinct groups or ‘bubbles’ that do not mix’
- There is no limit on the size of the group or bubble with the DfE recognising that in order to provide a full curriculum and maintain safe staffing levels, schools might need to ‘increase the size of these groups’
- Therefore, at Booker Hill we will adopt a Phase / Bubble structure from during any period of local or national restriction.
- The diagram below outlines this structure
Bubbles / Phases: a bubble / phase approach will be adopted to reduce the risk to staff and children; this will involve whole class bubbles and phase bubbles (up to 2 classes) for lunch and break times (EYFS Phase = Nursery bubble + Reception class bubble; Key Stage 1 Phase = Years 1 bubble + Year 2 bubble; Lower Key Stage 2 Phase = Year 3 bubble + Year 4 bubble; Upper Key Stage 2 phase = Year 5 bubble + Year 6 bubble)
If staggered timings are needed:
- Staggering timings: we will implement staggered start and finish times with a small window of opening and closing times. We understand that might present some concerns for parents; feel free to email the school office if you have further questions
- · Staggered start and finish times will not reduce the amount of overall teaching time.
- · Staggered breaks and lunch times will ensure the phase bubbles do not mix.
Parents are not permitted to enter the school playground in the morning. Members of staff will be posted on each of the entrances to ensure the safety of all children.
If you have a child in a different phase, for example a child in EYFS or Key Stage 1, older children (KS2) can come onto the playground via the front gate and pathway at the side of the Reception classroom.
A member of staff will be at the Reception classroom entrance to guide the Key Stage 2 children to the playground if they have a younger sibling.
When collecting Key Stage 2 children, parents must remember to socially distance when waiting at entrances or on the school playground.
Collecting children
Please collect any EYFS and Key Stage 1 children from their designated entrance and then walk to the playground to collect your Key Stage 2 children. Please wait with any younger children in the designated playground collection zone to collect Key Stage 2 children.
If you have a child in Key Stage 2, please wait towards the rear of the playground and the older child will be sent across to you.
Uniform
All children will wear school uniform (listed below) unless they are scheduled to have PE that day—a timetable is shared via the termly class leaflet at the start of term
Children should come into school wearing their PE kit on days when they have PE so as to avoid having to change during the day. PE clothes should be school regulation as listed below.
