Learning Without Limits
At Booker Hill, we firmly believe that all children have the right to try out new challenges and to be ambitious. Therefore, we have adopted a 'Learning without Limits' ethos across our school. Learning without Limits is the motto chosen for Booker Hill during a whole school community wide vote and was the first choice of many of our pupils, staff, Governor's and parents.
As part of our participation in The Great Learner's Project, several of our staff had also begun to develop a way to promote a No Limits view to learning and so the motto and our new growth mindset ethos fit together perfectly.
So what do we mean by 'Learning without Limits'?
One of the main themes of The Great Learner's Project is to work to dispel the myth that ability is fixed and to eliminate teaching practices that limit learning. In short, this means changing the perceptions of those with a fixed mindset to a community with a growth mindset of adults and children who truly believe that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.
So at Booker Hill we did not want simply another new initiative, but instead we have designed a pupil friendly approach that will, over time, become a learning ethos that will encourage our staff, pupils and parents to become life-long, motivated learners. The approach is themed around the idea of learning journeys being akin to riding a thrilling, yet sometimes scary, roller coaster ride where dips, twist and turns mimic the stages of learning.
So are YOU ready to ride No Limits?
