AIMS, Ethos and VALUES

Our Aims, Ethos and Values

Aims

Our aim is to offer a friendly, safe and caring environment in which your child can grow and develop his or her potential. We plan the curriculum carefully to support this, and our aim is to ensure that every child receives the best education we can provide.

In addition, our ethos and aims encompass a multitude of citizenship opportunities including coverage of SMSC, British Values, RE and PSHE objectives. We have reflected and audited the coverage we provide in these areas and have created a Citizenship policy that details some examples against each objective. Take a look at our Citizenship overview here and visit our Bespoke Curriculum page to view how we incorporate all areas of developing our pupils' citizenship skills into Booker Hill life.

Ethos / Mission Statement

We aim to provide a caring, multi-cultural community in which we aim to realise everyone's potential through, achievement, communication, friendship, trust and respect.

Our New 2020 - 2021 School Values

Last academic year, we decided that we needed a new set of school values that reflect the values that we think everyone in the Booker Hill community should have. We are excited to share those new values with you now too. Our values spell out the word ASPIRE which fits perfectly with our ethos of Learning Without Limits.

The children have all been introduced to the new values and classes have been doing a range of activities to help them to learn them. Some made booklets, some posters while others have been decorating their classrooms and focusing on one value per week.

Booker Hill Code

At Booker Hill, we praise children for knowing and trying to follow our 7 moral values, which are:

  • be kind and helpful
  • be gentle and honest
  • have respect
  • listen and try our best
  • accept differences
  • forgive
  • be peace makers

By following these values, we try to be our best selves.

Pastoral Care

Every attempt is made to ensure we provide a warm, caring and safe environment for your child to work in. If children become unwell during the day we take good care of them until we are able to make contact with you or someone you have nominated.

Children can, use inhalers provided the school is informed. We encourage the older children to be responsible for their own inhalers wherever possible.

At Booker Hill School we strive to ensure that our pupils feel safe and secure in an environment that encourages them to have the confidence and support to express their views. We ensure that everyone in our school community understands that negative comments about another person or group of people will be challenged. As a school we investigate any incidents of alleged racism and bullying in a sensitive way. Incidents are dealt with in line with our Behaviour Policy and parents are involved. Racist incidents are reported to the local authority.

Pupils are aware of how they can get advice and support if they are concerned about any issue. A few of the strategies we have in place to ensure that our pupils are happy include bully watchers, a bully box, a student council and circle time sessions which promote personal, social, and moral development. As you can tell from the Booker Hill Code, we want our pupils to have respect for others and for themselves.
